Atherstone Parents asked to help deal with anti-social behaviour Residents on an estate in Atherstone have been sent a leaflet asking them to get involved in tackling a local problem of anti social behaviour. A minority of Youths on the Sheepy Road estate have created problems for shop keepers and residents with abuse, threats and bad behaviour. To deal with this the Councillors and Mike O’Brien MP have been working with the council officers, the police and the Residents Association. The Councillors and the MP have sent the leaflet. The leaflet sets out local plans to deal with...

Kill “The Snake” before it kills someone Residents in Witherley Road Atherstone have called on the County Council to scrap a series of traffic features which were recently installed because they believe the road is now more dangerous than it was before. They call the series of raised cushions in the road “The Snake” because cars and buses dodge in and out of traffic lanes to avoid them, like a wriggling snake. They said that the humps were too high and cars kept scrapping their chassis on them so they drive into the gap in the middle...

Children's play areas to be improved and made safer Warwickshire County Council is to receive £1.1 million of new funding from April 2009 as part of the Labour Government’s Children’s Plan. The money will be used to transform children’s play areas and make sure public spaces are safer and more child friendly in the county. A key requirement of the funding programme is that the Council must involve communities in decisions on where the money is spent. This means that the Council will be required to enable and support community-led projects. Play England will help advise on local community bids...

Government crackdown on rogue employers who use tips to underpay staff The Government is to change the rules so that in future tips given in restaurants will go to employees and will have to be paid on top of the minimum wage. Currently, some rogue employers are using staff tips to pay their employees, to get around the minimum wage. This means some hard-working service staff don’t ever receive the tips that customers leave for them. Mike O’Brien, MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth, has welcomed the crackdown. He said, “Many local people work in...
